Postmaster.Info : Third Party Mail Clients

Third Party Mail Clients

This page contains information that will be useful if you received a bounce message when sending from a third party mail client through an AOL connection. The following paragraphs contain information as to why this mail may have bounced.

The message you received is generated from AOL when sending mail through a third party program. The mail is routed through AOL's network and then checked for viruses and filtered for spam.

An alternative that would prevent this would be sending third party e-mail through port 587 instead of port 25. This port requires you to authenticate and may require a change to your email client settings. Also, the server you are connecting to must support this configuration. Please contact your server administrator for further support on this configuration.

Spam Detection

America Online Inc. reserves the right to block mail being sent outside of the AOL Client using the AOL connection. AOL takes the responsible role of protecting its members as well others from unsolicited email generated from the AOL network. You may read our unsolicited bulk e-mail policy.

Rate Limiting Connections

America Online Inc. imposes a rate limit on an AOL member when a member exceeds the acceptable number of email messages sent in a given time period. This includes AOL members sending mail via a third party program. (ie; Outlook, Eudora, etc.). Please visit AOL Keyword: Rate Limiting to learn more.

Virus Checking

America Online Inc. scanned the file attachment(s) you attempted to send and determined that it was infected with a virus. To prevent the recipient of your e-mail message from becoming infected with the virus, you must remove the infected file attachment prior to sending your message. Please visit AOL Keyword: Anti-Virus to learn more about viruses and what AOL is doing to keep you safe online.
